How Did You Apply for Your Job?:
I had an interesting discussing with a fellow career expert about how people are applying for jobs when they are so many different ways to apply these days. The use of mobile apps is on the rise, with a recent CareerBuilder survey reporting almost 1/3 of site traffic coming from mobile devices. 40% of those job seekers don't follow through on the application process though, because it's too hard from their phone or tablet.
There are other options, as well. Many companies love to get referrals, and many new hires come from employee referrals. LinkedIn is another good way to get a job with the help of people you know. Job seekers can search for and apply for jobs directly on LinkedIn. Plus, you can use your connections at the company to help you get a foot in the door.

With the major retailers, you can apply online or you can go to a store and apply in a hiring center inside the store. In person job applications can work well, because you get to make a personal connection, if you're lucky, with the manager.

Most companies, not just retail, have online application systems. That can be one of the best ways to apply because you are going direct to the source and not applying through a third party.

The job sites (Indeed, Monster, CareerBuilder, Dice, SimplyHired, LinkUp) remain the way most job seekers search for employment. January, which is a traditionally big job search month, showed a 24% increase in the job search category in comScores report. Indeed was up 29% to 17.3 million visitors, CareerBuilder was up 20% to 9.6 million visitors, Monster grew 32% to 9.1 million, and SimplyHired was up 40% to 4.7 million.
