The Office of Information Resources and Technology (IRT) provides information technology, informatics and knowledge management services in support of the School of Medicine's clinical, research and educational missions.
This role is responsible for supporting the design, development, and operations of databases for mission-critical applications, data warehouses and data flows. This includes performance optimization, backup and recovery strategies, and troubleshooting complex problems in development and production environments. This role includes project and team leadership. This position will be a member on a cross-departmental team collaborating on the design, development and support of our applications and services.
Qualifications
Required:
• BA/BS in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience in an environment requiring support for highly available, large-scale, multi-vendor computer services.
• Experience with and the ability to participate in shared 24x7 on-call rotation.
• Advanced knowledge of systems and database administration, and in-depth experience in a mixed computing environment. This includes being able to specify best-practices standards for systems and databases related to backups, architecture, schema usage, security, high-availability solutions, monitoring and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to develop a vision for future technical and user requirements and developing plans to meet those needs.
• Extensive experience with Windows Server and Linux required.
• Extensive experience with Oracle RAC (single and multi-node, live upgrades, RMAN backups) required. Some experience with SQL Server, and MySQL required. Experience with different import/export methodologies required. Experience with database performance tuning for data warehouses required.
• Senior systems administration experience as it relates to running large and highly available databases – knowledge and experience specifying systems architecture and configuring underlying requirements at the OS level for databases and database clustering.
• Experience and demonstrably thorough understanding of both local and enterprise storage technologies and best practices, including RAID, replication, disaster recovery, and security features, as well as how to best integrate features with complex system architectures.
• Experience and thorough understanding of virtualization and virtualization high availability solutions.
• In-depth programming experience of some kind is needed. Experience in one or more of the following: Java, JDBC, Hibernate (or other ORM technology), Perl, Ruby, Python or Unix shell scripting languages.
• Experience with common application and SQL development tools (such as Eclipse, Sql Developer) as well as working with automated tools to perform database design and performance analysis.
• Specific experience with networks, routing, network topology, network security devices and methodology, and network redundancy engineering, including load-balancing technologies. Strong knowledge of network troubleshooting methodologies required. Strong knowledge of commonly used protocols and technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with development and quality assurance teams. Experience with general software development cycle phases, including requirements specification, modeling, system design, database development, documentation, and maintenance.
• High level of integrity and excellent judgment concerning privacy issues.
• Requires experience and excellent judgment regarding delivery of high end-user performance along with highly available approaches for user-facing services
• Demonstrated ability to work on large/complex system deployment projects in a team environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical users. Experience documenting procedures for others’ use.
• A strong ability to evaluate tasks and projects, and meet and keep commitments.
• The ability to manage projects (involving many people and/or months of varied tasks).
• Strong interpersonal skills, judgment, and diplomacy required to interact effectively with a broad spectrum of people, both individually and in groups.
Desired:
• Experience with ETL tools (such as Informatica), reporting tools (examples include OBIEE, Business Objects).
