Poll Technica: Will you buy new touch hardware for Windows 8?:

Do you need a new Windows 8 device to fully appreciate the operating system, to the point that you'll buy one?

In the weeks and months leading up to the launch of Windows 8, there was scarcely a hardware company in the land that wasn't planning some kind of device designed around the new operating system's touch capabilities. We saw news everywhere of tablets that dock into keyboard bases, laptops that twist and fold, and notebooks with touchscreens.
But even as Microsoft and other manufacturers hinted heavily that the full Windows 8 experience deserved new hardware sporting touchscreens galore, it's been unclear to us whether customers are buying into the marketing. There's also an option for a "standalone tablet," one without a keyboard dock. Finally, a "convertible laptop" is a notebook that physically transforms into a tablet-like shape by folding or twisting, such as the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga.
