CCleaner is one of the most popular applications when it comes to removing temporary files on a Windows system. It is small, lightweight, regularly updated, customizable and available as a portable version or installer for all recent versions of the Windows operating system.
A new version of CCleaner has just been released that is bringing the stable version of the application to 3.23. The two major changes in this release improve performance under Windows 8, and general memory usage and shutdown time under all versions of the Windows operating system.
The developers of the program in addition have added support for Firefox 16, the browser’s upcoming stable version, DNS prefetch, journal and tmp file cleaning for Google Chrome, and support for the CoolNovo web browser, formly known as Chrome Plus.
Additional improvements have been made to the publisher discovery on startup, file deletion security, and support for run once actions in the built-in startup tool.
The startup tool is available under Tools > Startup in the program interface. It is divided into the four tabs Windows, Internet Explorer, Scheduled Tasks and Context Menu, providing you with options to remove items from system start. While it is nowhere near as complete as what Autoruns makes available, it is better than Windows’ built-in tool msconfig as it makes available additional entries and items that the built-in tool misses.
Existing and new users can download the latest version of the program from the official website. you need to click on the builds link at the bottom of the page to download the portable version of the program. Existing users who have installed CCleaner on their computer need to run the CCleaner 3.23 installer again to update their version of the program to the latest one.
All Windows users should benefit from the update, considering that it improves the program’s memory usage and shutdown time.
