Nokia Sales Up, Market Share Down:
Gartner, an IT research firm, reported its worldwide smartphone sales numbers for the fourth quarter of 2012. They found Nokia’s market share to decrease to 18%, the lowest it has ever been. The current leader is Samsung at 22.7%. Apple’s follows with 9.2% market share.

The good news is that Nokia’s sales have have improved due to good response to Asha and Windows Phone Lumia devices in the fourth quarter. It’s not enough, though. Gartner recommends more Asha phones and apps:
Analysts said that aside from the continued focus on Lumia, Nokia needs to build on momentum around Asha in 2013 by adding devices and apps to further enhance its overall value proposition and, in doing so, moving up the price point slightly to achieve better margins breaching the gap left by Symbian.
