Wired CES Crew 2013
Well, a portion of it anyway. Here, a handful of reporters from our sister site set up temporary shop at a cocktail table at Pepcom Digital Experience.
Hey, it's Matt Braga!
Just to hammer home the point, it's a who's who of the tech journalism community at this event. Here's Ars contributor Matt Braga, an unexpected surprise. (Pictured from left to right: Florence Ion, Tested's Norman Chan, and Matt Braga.)
Follow the arrows...
In case you lost your way during Qualcomm's keynote, this "mobile" (get it?) of neon symbols could light your way.
Blurry, on purpose
#bluronpurpose of the strip at night, with the hotel New York New York to the left.
Bellagio fountains
Unblurred. Here's a view of the Bellagio fountains from the Cosmopolitan, where Casey and Flo guest-hosted Tested's live show after Day 1 of CES.
Makeshift Desk
Norman Chan of Tested exhibits the yoga pose Pravasana, or "Makeshift Desk." It's important to stay limber during all tech conferences.
Casey and Flo on Tested Live
Casey Johnston and Florence Ion record a CES-themed episode of Tested Live with Tested.com's Norman Chan. View the entire episode here.
Free food!
CES Rule No. 1: Never say no to free food. (Plus, desserts are fancy in the desert.)
The green party
In line for Nvidia's Sunday night press conference. Caution: color theme ahead.
We are borg
As advertised, everything in and outside Nvidia's presser was bathed in a green glow.
Nvidia's Project Shield
It was worth battling the neon, however. Nvidia's Project Shield gaming console / tablet has been one of the conference's most surprising hardware announcements. (Read all about it from Kyle Orland.)
Gallagher?
Yes, the watermelon-destroying comedian is roaming CES. We asked if he was performing, and he said, "No. I have patents, you know." Turns out this is not a joke.
Robots playing ping-pong
Despite all the events, CES is about the gear at heart. These toy robots were crawling around during the CES Unveiled press event, launching colored ping pong balls at unsuspecting passers by.
Mobile thunder
Belkin unveiled a new iPad case that includes and integrated 2.1 sound system (capable of handling Bane audio) for "mobile" home theater.
2013 Chevy Spark EV
Chevy's upcoming 2013 Spark EV includes Chevy's new MyLink infotainment system.
ION iDJ 2 Go Plus
ION has revamped its standalone mobile DJ controller with Lightning support for the latest iOS devices.
ION Sound Splash
I could personally get a lot of milage out of this waterproof Bluetooth speaker by jamming out to Ke$ha in the shower.
ION Scratch 2 Go
Among ION's many audio-related gadgets being released this year is a set of five capacitive touch-compatible DJ controllers that stick on to an iPad. They are compatible with ION's DJ2Go app as well as Algoriddim's djay for iPad.
The "Siri" button
A GM spokesperson demonstrated MyLink's integration with Siri's "Eyes-free" mode. The system can work with Android, but according to a contact we spoke with, Apple makes integrating with Siri "more robust" than Android at this point in time.
Augmented Sphero
Senior Gaming Editor Kyle Orland gets a demo of Sphero's new augmented reality features. (Though Tobii had the trippiest reality-augmentation on display.)
Withings Smart Activity Tracker
The tiny fitness tracker from Withings looks like a solid entry into a gadget category that is becoming increasingly crowded.
kubxlab ampjacket for iPad mini
kubxlab has designed a series of cases for iOS devices which passively amplify the relatively quiet built in speakers. They are particularly proud of the iPad mini ampjacket, which ships in February; it includes integration with Apple's Smart Cover for better stability.
FirefoxOS on a real phone
Behold, it exists! (Take a visual tour here.)
Always glad to revisit the Nest
Jacqui Cheng took a deeper look at this smart thermostat for Ars, but we're still happy to see it around CES.
Casey JohnstonOne is the loneliest number...
We've all been there: a lonely news hunter works alone between two garbage cans among pylons on his Microsoft Surface. A fitting end to the first behind the scenes look of Ars at CES.
