PrePrint: A Path Between: How mentors can grow the next generation of computing professionals and have fun while doing good: Over the next ten years in the United States, more than half of STEM job openings will be in computing, but the domestic production of computing graduates is estimated to be less than half the anticipated annual demand. This shortfall threatens our companies, economy and national security and thus should be of serious concern to all computing professionals. Luckily, solutions to this problem are at hand – in fact, in our own hands. In this article, I describe how mentoring one student at a time can help us grow the next generation of computing professionals and hopefully convince you that as a mentor you can have fun while doing good.
