Mercedes-Benz Style and Silver Arrow Marine presented designs for an all-new 14-meter yacht at the 2012 Monaco Yacht Show. To be developed and built by U.K.-based Silver Arrows Marine, the seagoing vessel is intended to convey the passionate design-language of Mercedes-Benz in the nautical realm. (Unlike the SLS AMG–inspired Cigarette boat, which conveyed little more than Benz’s performance arm’s love of sheer horsepower.) Silver Arrows Marine is responsible for the yacht’s technical equipment and construction, while the Mercedes-Benz Style team will collaborate on interior layout, shaping the exterior, and choosing materials and color combinations.
Judging by the accompanying images, the design looks to follow current trends in mega-yacht design, trading hard lines and creases for softer, vaguely anthropomorphic shapes. How precisely the optimistic concept drawings will translate to the finished vessel won’t be known until the first hull begins to take shape. The first example is scheduled for completion in 2013. No mention has been made regarding the engine options for the craft.
- First Drive: 2013 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG
- First Drive: 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG
- Comparison Test: 2012 BMW X5 M vs. 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG, 2012 Porsche Cayenne Turbo
According to Mercedes-parent-company Daimler, the craft will join the company’s Eurocopter EC145 (another collaboration) and Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Daimler’s portfolio, representing the next stage in “all-encompassing mobility.” For the first time, travel on land, sea, and air under the aegis of the three-pointed star will be possible. So get your towels ready, if we may recall the words of Andy Samberg, the Mercedes-Benz of the seas is about to go down.
