Create Groups for your App or Game (Beta)


Apps and games can now create and manage Groups via the Graph API to help people connect and share their experiences. To date, many gamers create their own Groups to connect with friends and share tips and tricks about the games they play together. Now games can seamlessly create and invite players who may not know each other outside of the game to join Groups around clans or other joint activities. Groups can facilitate community interaction and drive deeper connections among players.

To ensure a high quality experience for users, we're making this feature available as a beta to all apps and games listed in App Center, and will continue to iterate over time. You can get started now by reading our concepts and reference documentation.

Streamlined Open Graph Approvals with Screenshots


We have updated the Open Graph Action submission flow to allow developers to upload screenshots of their Open Graph usage directly in the submission process. Please make sure to follow the Open Graph Guidelines when submitting new Actions. Adherence to these Guidelines and uploading detailed screenshots of your Open Graph implementation will help expedite your review.

Debug version of the JavaScript SDK


A debug version of the JavaScript SDK is now available. It is loaded un-minified and also contains stricter type checking. If you are trying to debug an error when working with the JS SDK, we encourage you to test against the debug version as it will provide more descriptive errors and is easier to step through.

See the Loading and Initialization section of the JavaScript SDK docs for information on how to load the debug version.

Platform Policy Update


We updated our Platform policies (IV.4.b) to clarify that if you use any of our social plugins you must not sell or purchase placement or participate in any like exchange programs.

Update to Facebook for WordPress


We have significantly reworked the WordPress plugin for improved stability, individual settings pages, custom post type support, and custom post status support. Version 1.1 requires WordPress 3.3 or newer, providing some nice features such as contextual help, asynchronous JavaScript loading, and content formatters with multibyte support.

Breaking Changes


February 2013 Breaking Changes


The following changes will go into effect on February 6th, 2013:

  • End of custom actions for content consumption
  • Authenticated referrals going away
  • Create_event permission required to remove attendees from event
  • Minor change to admin.getAppProperties call
  • Canonical URLs used when fetching Open Graph objects
  • Offset no longer allowed when searching posts
  • Curly bracket syntax for mentioning users in notifications going away
  • Removing ability to post to friends walls via Graph API
  • Picture connection/field may return a dictionary

Rolling out HTTPS for all Users


As announced last year, we are moving to HTTPS for all users. This week, we're starting to roll out HTTPS for all North America users and will be soon rolling out to the rest of the world.
