Open thread: Black Friday triumphs, tribulations, rants, resolutions:
Against all odds, Black Friday has grown more competitive this year. Stores opening at midnight on Thanksgiving (while we’re still digesting) is old news—this year several chains opened at 8pm yesterday. By 8:05pm, that TV you wanted was gone and your trap was still full of pecan pie.
The worst of it may already be over by now, and you either scored every doorbuster you dreamed of, went home with some consolation prizes, or were the 13th person in line for 12 monitors and retired to Auntie Anne’s to cry into your pretzels and cheese dip. It’s okay, champ. You’ll get them next year. Or maybe you waged your war online, where merchandise is more plentiful and lines are nonexistent and… wait, why does anyone shop in real life anymore?
Now we want to hear about your Black Friday experiences. We’re talking this year, last year, many years ago; from the perspective of a shopper, worker, or even support staff for a retail site crashing under the weight of deal seekers. Black Friday seems like a crazy endeavor to some, but for every person who tries it and swears to never partake again there’s one for whom it’s the best kind of blood sport.
