“Didn’t the Nokia Asha 311 just come out?” That was my first reaction when I read about the recent Nokia Asha 308 and 309 announcement. It made more sense after looking closely at the specs. The Asha 308 and 309 will be around $99 USD which is about $50 cheaper than the current price for the Asha 311. Let’s take a look at the differences after the jump.

The Nokia Asha 308, 309, and 311 all run S40 Touch which brings the touchscreen experience to very low price points. They all have 3-inch capacitive multitouch displays with 240 x 400 resolution. They all feature Nokia Browser 2.0, which uses Nokia’s cloud technology to reduce data consumption by up to 90%.
Choosing the right device will require some research, but we’ll talk about the main points to consider.
Nokia Asha 309
If you want 3G connectivity, go for the Nokia Asha 311 since Nokia Asha 308 and Nokia Asha 309 only support 2G connectivity for data. If you have wifi access, only the Nokia Asha 309 and 311 will work.
Out of the three devices compared in this post, only the Nokia Asha 308 supports Dual-SIM.

That info above will probably be enough to help most people choose, but we can go even further.
The Nokia Asha 308 and 309 have 800MHz processor and 64MB RAM compared to the Asha 311′s 1GHz and 128MB RAM.
The camera on both the Nokia 308 and 309 is 2 megapixels while the Asha 311 has 3 megapixels. The Asha 311 is capable of 480p video recording while the Asha 308 and 309 can only record 176×144 pixels video.
The Nokia Asha 308 and 309 are expected to ship in the fourth quarter 2012, while the Nokia Asha 311 is already available.
I love the idea of Nokia’s Asha Touch devices. They give many more consumers the opportunity to have smartphone-like features at very low cost. Not everyone has the money to buy the latest and greatest phone every few months.
