Maker Faire New York: Sean Charlesworth’s “Octopod”:
Sean Charlesworth sits with his 3D modeled/3D-printed mechanical octopus vehicle, the Octopod. (Gregory Hayes / MAKE)
MAKE readers, meet Sean Charlesworth. That’s him on the
left right, beside the gorgeously elaborate 3D-printed model—the
OctoPod Underwater Salvage Vehicle 5 (OPUS V)—that he designed, printed, and assembled, over the course of six months, in fulfillment of the thesis requirement for his recent master’s in Digital Imaging and Design. Parts were designed in
Cinema 4D and
Maya, and printed on an
Objet Connex500 multi-material polymer photojet 3D printer. Many more details are availabe in
Goli’s recent interview with Sean, and if you’re coming to
Maker Faire New York, you can chat with Sean and/or the Octopod, in person, over in the “3D Printer Village” in Zone B.
