Renault is looking to expand distribution of its Twizy electric vehicle to countries such as Turkey, Israel, Japan and Singapore as well as South America after selling about 6,500 vehicles throughout Europe. This news comes courtesy of Technologic Vehicles, which cited an interview with Thierry Koskas, who oversees the French automaker's electric-vehicle program.
The company, which is in the process of developing another urban electric vehicle with Daimler's Smart division, said the car will have a price tag of about 10,000 euros (about $12,400) and may be available as soon as 2014, according to the publication.
Renault started selling the Twizy EV in France in March and expanded into the U.K. in April. The Twizy, which has moved about 1,000 units in Germany already, has 17 horsepower and is about a foot shorter than the Smart ForTwo.
Already, Twizy EVs have been added to car-sharing programs in both France and the U.K.
