Oppo shows off the world’s thinnest smartphone

Oppo shows off the world’s thinnest smartphone: oppo-worlds-thinnest-smartphone
As technology moves forward, our gadgets keep getting thinner. 12mm, 10mm, 8mm, 7mm… and now we have a phone that’s just 6.65mm thin, which gives it the title of the “world’s thinnest smartphone.” It’s not anything from Apple, Samsung, Motorola, HTC, or any vendor you might expect. It’s from Chinese mobile phone brand Oppo.
Its name is the Oppo Finder. It’s an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It has 16GB of internal memory and 1GB of RAM for support. On the front is a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display and 1.3MP camera with 720p video capture. On the back is a 8MP camera with 1080p video capture. While its ultra slim form factor is a plus, the phone is pretty good looking, too. From the photos it looks quite a bit like the iPhone 4, but not enough that any lawsuits are necessary. (Sit back down, Apple.)
The Finder will be available for pre-order from Huawei on June 6th. It’s priced at 3,999 yuan, or $632. Yeah, it’s really expensive, but I suppose it’s the price you’ll have to pay for the world’s thinnest smartphone — at least while the Oppo Finder can claim that title before some other manufacturer snatches it up.
A brief look back on the constantly evolving mobile phone space reveals a number of phones that once called themselves the “world’s thinnest smartphone.” We’ll start with the iPhone 4 in 2010 coming in at 9.3mm thin. Then came the 8.45mm Samsung Galaxy S II and brought a heap of controversy with it. After that was the 7.1mm Motorola Droid Razr, the 6.68mm Huawei Ascend P1 S and now we have the 6.65mm Oppo Finder. What’s next to take the crown?
