myManga is a Manga Downloader and Reader for Windows:
If you are a fan of Japanese mangas and animes, you will find lots of sources on the Internet that allow you to read or view those online, or even download them to your local PC for offline reading. And while some sites may be borderline-legal, or not legal at all in some countries, what they offer may be perfectly legal in others. Before I’m getting into another argument about the legality of those sites and tools, I’d like to point out that I’m reviewing an application, and that it is the decision of the individual to use it or not.
MyManga is a new program for the Windows operating system that you can use to download, read and organize mangas. It lets you search various manga websites on the Internet, download manga series information and chapters, and read the mangas in the built-in reader.
When you start the program for the first time you will notice that the first three tabs of the interface are inactive, and that only the fourth tab is active. It lets you search for mangas on the sites MangaReader, MangaHere and MangaFox. Just select a site you want to search, enter the name of a manga series you are interested in and hit the return key afterwards. A click on the cloud symbol on the right downloads information about the selected manga to the local PC. No individual pages, chapters or full series are downloaded at this point in time.
Once you have added at least one manga this way you can switch to the library tab to take a look at the collection. Here you find a visual representation of all series, and information about each chapter once you select a manga from the list. To download a chapter click on the pair of glasses on the cover. The queue is then populated with the chapter or pages, and you can watch the download progress there, or start reading the manga right away while it is still being downloaded. You will also notice that the manga downloader will automatically download the next chapter once you reach the end of the chapter that you have just read.
The reader itself is basic, it allows you to zoom in and out of a page, to flip back and forth, and to select a specific page from the page selection menu at the bottom.
The author of the program has plans to integrate additional features into it, including bookmarks, auto update options and options to archive favorite chapters. The program is currently offered as a beta version, and requires the Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0. It is compatible with all recent 32-bit and 64-bit editions of the Windows operating system.
