Today’s post is the first in the “What’s New in AutoCAD 2013” series, and it’s a big topic—the integration of AutoCAD and Autodesk 360 through the Online tab.
Let’s take a quick tour through each of these tools.
Autodesk 360
This button takes you straight to the new cloud-based platform at https://360.autodesk.com. It’s the jumping-off point for all your online services—storage, sharing, collaboration, and more. Creating an account is fast & free, and you may already have one if you’ve ever logged in to the Subscription Center, Autodesk Labs, or the Discussion forums. To sign in from AutoCAD 2013, look for the Sign In box in Infocenter.
Online Options
This one takes you to the Online tab in the Options dialog, where you can choose whether to automatically save files to the cloud or not, and and whether to sync your settings to the cloud (more on that later).
Open on Mobile
This feature saves the current drawing to the cloud (if it isn’t there already) and sends a notification to the AutoCAD WS app on your mobile device. It’s a quick way to get a drawing from your desktop to your smartphone or tablet.
Upload Multiple
If you have a bunch of files you want to load into the cloud, this tool’s for you. It’s basically like an Open or Save dialog, but lets you copy files to the cloud.
Sync My Settings & Choose Settings
I’m actually going to save the details of this topic for later, but the basic idea is that anywhere you go, whatever computer you use, you can log in to your Autodesk 360 account and immediately have your AutoCAD set up the way you like it (colors, workspaces, even linetypes and tool palettes).
Share Document
This feature uploads your current drawing to Autodesk 360, then provides you with a dialog where you can enter in the email addresses of the people you’d like to share it with.
Collaborate Now
This feature is similar to Share Document, but it loads the drawing into AutoCAD WS for an instant collaboration setting.
