Rumors about the iPhone 5 continue to increase as we come ever closer to the rumored September 12 launch date. Apple has reportedly been in talks with mobile carriers in Korea about the iPhone 5 and its LTE capability. A story has surfaced in the Korea Times that claims mobile carrier KT has spilled the beans on the iPhone 5.
According to the story, a senior KT executive stated that, “KT is in negotiation with Apple to persuade the latter to support KT’s 1.8-gigahertz frequency in Korea for the upcoming iPhone.” Presumably, if Korea gets support for LTE, the iPhone that launches in the US will also bring LTE support. That would be no surprise considering many Android smartphones are now supporting faster LTE networks.
So far, the iPhone has lacked true 4G support. If the iPhone 5 supports LTE networks in Korea, it would have to support the 1.8 GHz frequency that KT uses. In the US, LTE services use 700 MHz and 2.1 GHz depending on the carrier. The Korea Times also says that Korean carrier SK Telecom confirmed that it would be getting an iPhone supporting 4G LTE connectivity.
We can add this to the many rumors of the iPhone 5 that have been surfacing. So far, the rumors peg the phone to have a four-inch display, a thinner body, and an advanced processor. The phone is also pegged to use a new, smaller docking connector, which will render all the accessories you’ve collected over the years void.
