The LAN IP will only work from within the LAN - that's why it works when you're using the hostname inside the LAN but not outside.
As it says in the guide, you must do all your testing from outside your LAN when using the hostname.
Also, if you aren't running any update client then when your WAN IP changes you will lose remote access. You must configure something that is always on to update your hostname. What you see on the DynDNS.com site is the site reporting the IP your browser appears to be at. There is no magical built in update client. Both your router (see P49 of the router's manual) and the DNS-323 (see P49 of it's manual too) have update clients. Configure only one and see if it works reliably.
