Hey Nokia fans, We have a new device to unbox today and that’s the Nokia Lumia 920! It’s now available in the US at AT&T stores for $99 with a 2-year contract and $449 without a contract.
Here’s a quick look at the box. There’s a photo of a black Nokia Lumia 920, but if you put it on the side, it’ll show you the actual color. There’s a matte black, matte cyan, glossy white, red, and yellow. I wanted yellow at first, but it wasn’t available so I chose the red one instead.
When you open the box, right away, you see a welcome message from AT&T and the quick start guide. If this is your first Windows Phone device, you’d probably want to take a look at it.
Next up is the main attraction and that’s the Nokia Lumia 920. It quickly reminds me of my Nokia Lumia 900 but I noticed the curved display right away. It feels much better than the flat display on the Nokia Lumia 900.
The buttons on the side and the camera strip on the back are also darker than the one on the Lumia 900. This is actually made of Zirkonium. It’s a substance that’s supposed to be scratch and dirt resistant. I definitely like that because the buttons and strip on the Nokia Lumia 900 scratched easily.
Let’s now power this up and take a look at the rest of the stuff inside the box.
Here’s the SIM door key. You’ll need it to pop open the sim card slot. It’s not a big deal, but I think it would’ve been cooler if it had the same look and feel of the camera strip on the back of the Lumia 920.
Up next is an NFC tag. It tells you to tap it with the Nokia Lumia 920. I’ll definitely try that later.
There’s also a piece of paper here that recommends nokiasmartsetup.com If you need help setting up your phone, it’s a free service for Nokia users with plenty of video tutorials. If you prefer, you can even schedule a call with one of their experts to get started.
The last piece of documentation is the product and safety information. A lot of us don’t read this, but you’ll probably learn something new like where the antennas are located on this phone.
Under all these papers is the USB charger. I like that it is taller and narrower than the one included in previous Nokia Lumia devices. This means more space for the power outlet for more chargers.
Last but not least is the charging and data cable. Unfortunately there are no headsets. But, this is probably to keep the costs down.
Let’s now go back to the Nokia Lumia 920. Like I said, I’m very excited about this device and I’m looking forward to checking out the Pureview camera and the low light performance. I’ll probably have the review by next week.
When you first turn it on, it asks you for language preference, the time and date. It then takes a few more minutes to complete the setup. For the geeks out there, the software version is 8.0.9903.10 and the firmware is that very very long number below that.
