The value of joining a game jam

The value of joining a game jam:

One of things that people have been asking me is whether or not they can participate in a game jam if they have no prior game development experience. The answer is a huge yes! My eyes were really opened to the value of game jams when we put on the first official Adobe jam last month. There were folks from all types of different disciplines including developers, designers, product managers, and even musicians. All came away learning something new. Check out this video to see some of the action.

Taking part in a game jam or hackathon can often be much more valuable than attending a normal conference. Rather than just listening to presentations, you instead join a team and actually build something. Another important point is that people usually work in a fun, collaborative manner and it is by no means a cutthroat competition. Even if you have no interest in games, the skills you pick up can translate to a lot of other areas.

Ok so now that I have convinced you to attend a game jam, why not come to the one Adobe is putting on in Chicago at the end of this month? There will be food, beer, and best of all, the event won’t cost you a dime! If you’re interested go on over and register and I’ll see you in a couple of weeks.
