We go hands-on with the Nokia Lumia 920. It’s Nokia’s new flagship Windows Phone 8 device and it will come with PureView technology. It’s not the same PureView you may have heard of from the Nokia 808, though. I’ll explain in a moment. Video after the jump.

The Nokia Lumia 920 has a 4.5 inch gorilla glass display and Nokia is labeling it as Puremotion HD+. Resolution is 1280 x 768 pixels. It has super sensitive touch so you can use your finger, gloves, pen, or key to touch the screen. It also has the clearblack filter, so you can see the display in even bright outdoor environments.
The Nokia Lumia 920 runs on a 1.5 GHz Dual Core Snapdragon S4 processor with 1GB of RAM. There’s 32GB of internal storage with 7GB online storage from SkyDrive.
The Nokia Lumia 920 has an 8.7MP camera. Don’t start complaining though. While PureView on the Nokia 808 meant lossless zoom with 41 megapixel sensor, Pureview on the Nokia Lumia 920 means steady video and excellent low light performance due to the optical image stabilizer.
OIS is a technology where the camera assembly moves in synchronization with your hands to reduce camera shake. This means less blurry photos and less shaky videos.
An example is at night where most cameras that shoot at 1/30th of a second will result in blurry photo depending on how steady you hold it. With the Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia is claiming you can shoot at 1/4th of a second. That’s a crazy statement that I definitely want to test when I get my hands on the final version.
This new PureView technology also means better one-handed photos, and great for those spontaneous moments where you quickly take the camera out to shoot something quick.
The Nokia Lumia 920 shoots 1080p HD videos at 30 frames per second and has a 1.2MP front facing camera.
The PureView technology on the Nokia Lumia 920 sounds great, but I had a different experience when actually playing with one earlier today. I wasn’t impressed. Some of my photos ironically came out blurry. This could be due to pre-release software, so wait for my full review when I get my hands on a final version.
The Nokia Lumia 920 has a 2000mAH battery with integrated wireless charging. There are a few accessories such as the Fatboy Recharge Pillow which you just rest the phone on to start charging. I think the JBL Wireless Powerup charging speaker is the most interesting one. Nokia partnered with Coffee Bean and Virgin Atlantic to have wireless charging stations.
The Nokia Lumia 920 will run Windows Phone 8. Nokia showed some features today that we’ve seen already like the new homescreen. Windows Phone 8 is not officially out yet, so I expect to see more features later on.
The Nokia Lumia 920 comes in yellow, red, grey, white and black with pentaband LTE and HSPA+ variants. They are expected to start shipping in select markets later in the year. Pricing was not announced.
