PrePrint: Debugging on the Shoulders of Giants:
Von Neumann’s Original Programs 65 Years Later: We present our analysis of some of the first computing programs ever written, the solutions to mathematical problems for the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study computer from the early post-war years. Such an exercise is a trip back in time to the early days of computing, and shows the importance of the "automatic programming" tools that were to emerge in the decades that followed.
