The Jaguar F-type was slated to make its debut at the Paris auto show at the end of September, but it seems the Brits couldn’t contain their enthusiasm any longer and the cat brand has released this photo of its new sports car. Previously previewed by the CX-16 concept and formally announced at the New York auto show in April, the F-type marks Jaguar’s return to its sports-car heritage, picking up where the E-type left off.
Although Jag’s enthusiasm resulted in the release of this image, consider the remainder of said enthusiasm curbed: no further details have been revealed. But here’s what we know: The F-type is set to go on sale in the middle of 2013 with a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 making 380 hp—the same engine that recently debuted in the new XF and XJ, although the sedans get a slightly detuned, 340-hp version—mated to an eight-speed automatic. Jaguar has confirmed that a manual transmission and a V-8 will be available, although it’s not clear which powerplants the stick will be mated to nor is the state of the eight-cylinder’s tune known.

- First Drive: 2012 Jaguar XKR-S
- Instrumented Test: 2013 Porsche Boxster S
All should be revealed at the Paris show, assuming Jag can successfully curb the remainder of its enthusiasm. But after looking at the production-ready F-type in this shot, we’re not sure we can do the same.
