Infiniti Abandoning V-8 Development, Says De Nysschen:

Like many Beach Boys songs from the ’60s, the distinct rumble of eight proud cylinders may soon be relegated to the oldies file. Looming European greenhouse-gas limits as well as U.S. government Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards may put the kibosh on larger-displacement engines. By 2025, the U.S. fleet will be required to average 54.5 mpg. Although the CAFE number is computed differently than those of the EPA that appear on vehicle window stickers, the new rule will require roughly a doubling of current real-world fuel efficiency in just 13 short years. That stark reality has a lot of manufacturers of luxury cars, performance cars, full-size trucks, and other traditional users of V-8 engines looking at smaller-displacement engines with turbocharging and electric hybridization.
