In an event held just outside of Los Angeles in Santa Monica, Amazon announced the successor to its first tablet effort. The new Kindle is the Kindle Fire HD LTE, an 8.9″ IPS tablet at 1900×1200 resolution that runs $499 and features 4G LTE.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said that they felt that this wasn’t just the “best tablet for the price”, but the best tablet for “any price.” He then showed a comparison chart of the savings vs a 4G equipped iPad.
