123D Catch now available for Apple iPhone, iPad and desktop

123D Catch now available for Apple iPhone, iPad and desktop:
iPhone 4S photoBig 3D’elicious news for millions of iPhone owners! Capture 3D models from your iPhone for Free!

123D Catch MobileThere is an update today to the 123D Catch Mobile app in the Apple App Store that before only supported the iPad 3, but now also supports the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S as a universal binary.
Other updates include:
The ability to leverage the camera exposure and focus controls by tapping on the image during capture, and being able to review, delete, and/or re-shoot pictures before submitting your capture.
Now you can capture the world around you by simply taking up to 40 photos with your iPhone and process them using the power of the cloud computing to generate 3D textured models that you can view, share, and download.

Please pay attention to the tutorial and tips to get the best results.
One of the common questions when we launched 123D Catch Mobile for the iPad was “why the iPad first when the iPhone 4S has a better camera” well it is an easy answer as it was mainly about scale. There are millions of iPhone users but less iPad users so we could test the app and scale the servers up and improve on a smaller device population before opening the flood gates to millions of potential users.

You still have the ability to use the desktop based 123D Catch for photos from your digital camera or the cloud based 123D Catch. The cloud hosted version of 123D Catch requires that you use the Google Chrome browser or the Chrome frame extension for IE. http://apps.123dapp.com/catch

I have privileged to have been involved with this technology from the beginning back when it was a technology preview on Autodesk Labs code named named the Project Photofly (Project Photofly is now 123D Catch). This technology is amazing and under the hood is pure photogrammetry mathematics and the power of a cloud hosted processing as it is extremely intense and requires a special advanced graphics hardware to create the 3D model and your own mobile or computer is most likely not capable of this power and scalability and graphics processing as we can simply spread the processing load across a large number of these high powered servers.
Use the captured 3D models in animations in 3ds max, Maya or other 3D software, make a 3D print on a MakerBot, Autodesk Meshmixer, or even send them to Autodesk 123D Make (also free) and create a pattern to build a real object from cardboard, acrylic or plywood. Or modify the 3D model it using 123D Sculpt.
Yes, imagine your own 3D captured head as a bobble head or Pez candy dispenser for your desk to freak out coworkers in the office, Christmas ornaments, or a huge yard ornament.
