Given that the PlayStation Vita had just come out roughly three months before, it was a bit surprising how little Sony talked about its new portable at its E3 press conference in June, and how few exciting new games for the system were displayed at the show. Sony seemed determined to rectify that at Germany's massive Gamescom conference this week, using a press conference at the show as a chance to announce a number of new titles and initiatives focused on the Vita.
Among the new games is the first new franchise from Little Big Planet makers Media Molecule, called Tearaway. The new 3D platformer, slated for 2013, is set in an origami world where everything is made of paper. A brief trailer showed the game making extensive use of the Vita's touchscreen, touch panel, and tilt controls, as well as the built-in camera.
On the third-party side, Black Ops: Declassified, which was first announced at E3, received a confirmed November release date, alongside its console cousins, and a bundled release with the Vita hardware. The portable version of the game will have exclusive levels and a four-vs.-four team deathmatch mode, Sony said.
