Samsung didn’t copy iPhone design, court in South Korea rules:
While a US jury deliberates over whether Samsung copied the design of the iPhone and iPad, a court in Samsung’s home country of South Korea has ruled in Samsung’s favor. It was a split decision in which both companies won sales bans against older versions of each other’s products. But the question of whether Samsung copied the look and feel of Apple’s iPhone was resolved, with the court ruling Friday that Samsung did not copy Apple's products.
“It is not possible to assert that these two designs are similar based only on the similarity of those features,” the Seoul Central District Court said today, referring to the rectangular shape with rounded corners of the devices in question, the Associated Press reported. The court also said Samsung’s application icons are not similar to the ones used in Apple’s iPhone.
Samsung hailed the decision. "Today's ruling affirmed our position that one single company cannot monopolize generic design features," the company said, according to IDG News Service.
