Modder fixes Dark Souls' PC resolution problem minutes after release

Modder fixes Dark Souls' PC resolution problem minutes after release:
Earlier this month, Eurogamer made a worrisome discovery about the graphical fidelity of the then-upcoming PC port for Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. While the game's settings allowed for multiple resolutions to match a variety of monitor types, the raw image being sent to the game's framebuffer was apparently limited to the same 1024x720 resolution used by the console versions.
That's where NeoGAF forum user Durante comes in. Mere minutes after the PC edition of the game was made available today, Durante had posted a downloadable DLL file that allows for higher internal resolutions by intercepting and altering the game's DirectX 9 API calls. The effect is immediately apparent, as you can tell from a quick glance at before and after shots of the mod in action.
Durante notes that he started developing a basic "interception DLL framework" for the mod in the week leading up to the game's release. That framework allowed him to add the specific alterations on top of the Dark Souls code incredibly quickly once the game was finally made available. Newer versions of the mod since that initial release have already made further improvements in areas like text rendering and motion blur.
