HP Reboots Its Tablet Aspirations: Besides spinning out its webOS team into a new free-standing subsidiary called Gram, HP is going to restart an internal consumer tablet effort as part of its recently conjoined Printing and Personal Systems Group (PPS).
According to an internal e-mail leaked to The Verge, HP has hired former Nokia EVP Alberto Torres to run a new Mobility Global Business Unit reporting directly to PPS chief Todd Bradley.
Torres ran the doomed Linux-based MeeGo effort at Nokia before it got the Windows religion.
It is utterly unclear what operating system or processor HP will use under the rekindled tablet effort although its upcoming commercial tablet – presumably the Windows 8 widget it intends to field – reports to James Mouton, who runs the PC unit.
