Creative in Ballard – Wintr’s Kolstrand Building Offices

Creative in Ballard – Wintr’s Kolstrand Building Offices:
The Kolstrand Building is an early 1900′s historic brick building set in the heart of Ballard – a lively Seattle neighborhood where a major urban renewal has been unfolding for several years. The structure, what was at one time 5 different building built over 50 years, has recently been renovated to contain both restaurant and office space.
Wintr, a Creative Content Engineering company, is just one of the companies that call the building home. Their office space is depicted in images 2-7 of the gallery below. Their space has a workstations for 12 and an array of different sized meeting tables. Other companies that have space here are Stoke, Duo PR, and Turnstyle.
With exposed brick walls, wooden beams, and several cemented walls the office has a very historic-industrial feel to it. I’d liken the style to be similar to Wieden+Kennedy – only on a much smaller scale of course. The Kolstrand Building project was designed by Graham Baba Architects – who worked to maintain much of the building’s historic details while making it earthquake safe.
But as the building is designed to be a mixed-use structure, several restaurants call it home as well – including the famed oyster bar the Walrus and the Carpenter and Staple & Fancy.
Lastly – and personally most important – there is a great cup of coffee available at the Dutch Bike Co. cafe. Which reminds me that I need another cup.
