Travel review and booking site TripAdvisor has just announced that its City Guides mobile app has expanded into 50 total destinations — up by 30 more destinations from its original offering. Additionally, Android users can expect a host of new features, including transit maps and customized itinerary suggestions.
According to the release, TripAdvisor is still the “world’s largest travel site,” but it has certainly lost its new car smell in competition against the likes of GogobotWanderflyTrippy and Gtrot. Still, this upgrade makes City Guides more attractive than ever, with the following cities available:

From Adam Medros, vice president of global product at TripAdvisor:

Users have already raved about the ease of use and helpfulness of TripAdvisor City Guides, with more than a million app downloads to date. We are excited to bring more cities and enhanced functionality to travelers, and ultimately help them enjoy their trips even more.

As for the three new Android features, you can learn more about Transit, TripIdeas and Offline Map Update below:

Transit – Users can now view metro or subway stations on a map. The “Nearby Station” feature helps travelers find the closest station to their current location, or to the restaurant, hotel, or attraction that they want to visit.
TripIdeas – TripIdeas are customized itinerary recommendations based on popular travel themes, such as traveling with family, foodie destinations, and places off the beaten path. Each itinerary includes beautiful large photos for inspiration. Users can keep track of their favorite TripIdeas in their “Saves” list.
Offline Map Update – Users can now fully customize their own maps. This feature displays saved destinations, metro stations, and any restaurants, hotels, and attractions of interest, to help travelers plan and have their perfect trip.

All in all this is a solid update from a long-time giant in this space. Still, are these updates enough to keep the site ahead of the competition?
Additionally, we can’t help but wonder how well TripAdvisor’s deep Facebook integration has fared, considering how successful integration has been for other companies lately.
