Got scholarship? Renault will fund electro-mobility classes in France:

Summer may be approaching, but that doesn't mean it's time to stop thinking about school, according to Renault.



The French automaker will start awarding what it calls the first "diploma" signifying expertise in electric vehicles and electro-mobility.



Renault is funding courses held at the IUT technology institute in Mantes (about 35 miles west of Paris) that will start in September. Students will complete an 11-month work-study program, in which one week of classroom instruction will be given for every two weeks of "real world" professional internship experience.



Some of the specific areas to be covered in the 20-person classes include EV design, on-board information-technology systems and charging infrastructure. Folks can sign up here through June 16 to be considered for the first batch of students. The money spent on these classes is a small part of Renault's overall EV spending. Renault, along with sister company Nissan, is said to have invested $5 billion in the development of electric-drive vehicles in expectation of surging EV sales over the next few years.



Earlier, Renault-Nissan said it looked to get majority control over Avtovaz, Russia's largest automaker. Under the memorandum of understanding, Renault-Nissan will own just over 50 percent of Avtovaz.
